Explore service learning, what differentiates service learning from other types of college student engagement (practicum, internships, etc.), and how together we can advance racial equity at our October professional gathering. Community engagement staff from local colleges and universities will lead this discussion: from Seattle Central College, Patti Gorman; Seattle University, Elizabeth O’Brien and Bonnie Nelson; University of Washington Bothell, Kara Adams; and University of Washington Seattle, Kathryn Putsch Cornforth. We will define service-learning, share tips on connecting with service-learning programs, and discuss ways that higher education institutions can support community-based racial equity work.
We hope that everyone comes away with new ideas about how to involve undergraduates in the work of your organization, and that we’re able to generate new ideas for collaboration between communities and campuses that advance racial equity.
